May 31, 2014 Carlsbad to Pagosa Spring Colorado

A wonderful sunset at Brantley State Park in Carlsbad New Mexico
Followed by a fantastic sunrise this morning.
Rosewell New Mexico has aliens everywhere and you have to be careful of the pink ones.
Even the McDonalds is greeting the aliens.
I think we found an alien.
The Mc Donalds was a space ship that just landed.
Santa Fe houses blend in well with the landscape
The drive to Pagosa Spring was beautiful.
We arrived at our campground at around 4pm. It is located 18 miles up in the mountains from Pagosa Springs.
The campground has a lodge similar to Red Green's Possum Lodge
There was even a pool table Becky was excited even though I beat her two out of three games.
The lodge was nice, it even had a full kitchen.

Tweety is happy not to be bouncing down the dirt roads up to this mountain campground.

May 30, 2014 BRANTLEY LAKE AND CARLSBAD CAVERNS, NM

This little guy was outside our camper just running around. Nice ears.
 This is a Baltimore Oriel
We made our way to Carlsbad Caverns. If you have never been here, put it on your list. It is a day's drive from anywhere, but worth the effort.
Doug is ready for his trip down into the caverns.
This is the natural opening into the caverns. Becky is starting her decent.
Doug has started down the opening.
Looking back up the natural opening.

The following pics speak for themselves, but the camera can not capture the size and beauty of this place.

Hope you liked the pictures. We have a long drive to Colorado tomorrow.

May 29, Thursday ON THE ROAD TO BRANTLEY LAKE NEW MEXICO

Texas has many oil wells.
If you look close there are windmills in the background of the oil wells. Old vs new
A closeup of an oil well.

We saw hundreds of oil wells on our way.
The entrance to our campground for two days just north of Carlsbad Caverns.
Tweety is tired after 10 hours of travel over very bad roads.
We have a very nice covered picnic table. There is very little shade.
You can see the lake behind the old people.
A look at the dam. They had 4 inches of rain last week so the level is higher than it has been for a long while.
There was a rabbit under this bush, but he ran away. So here is a pretty bush.
A look at our campground from a distance.

May 27 AND 28, 2014 AT BELTON LAKE LIVE OAK RIDGE

This is a Road Runner (like in  the road runner cartoons).  We haven't seen the wiley coyote but rumors says he is very much around.
Just Frosty and Tweety from another angle.
A short walk down from our campsite to Lake Belton revealed a view of a nice home.
Delilah being silly with her silly putty.
Delilah posing for the camera in her favorite climbing tree.
Jason and Delilah hanging out in Delilah's favorite climbing tree.
Grandma (a veteran tree climber) is not about to be left out of this special moment.
Another campfire and roasting of marshmallows before we depart Texas.
The coals are getting right.  Get your marshmallows and your stick.
Jason showing Delilah how to roast the perfect marshmallow as Grampa watches from the picnic table.
Delilah is keeping us all supplied with as many marshmallows as we can eat.
